Training offer

Action on Disability offers Disability Equality Training, Deaf Awareness and basic British Sign Language courses. All courses range are available as a full day course, half day course and one hour course. 

The course covers topics such as the Social Model of Disability, Equality Act 2010 and general Disability Awareness.

Full Day – Disability Equality Training

This course includes group exercise discussion and developing an action plan. £700 + VAT plus travel cost to your venue. AoD also has a training room should you wish to hire this space for a fee for your session. 

Half Day (3 hours): either AM or PM – Disability Equality Training

This training session includes short group exercise discussions. £400 + VAT plus travel cost to your venue. AoD also has a training room should you wish to hire this space for a fee for your session. 

One Hour – Disability Equality Training, choose one of the themes: (a) Social Model of Disability; (b) Equality Act 2010; (c) General Disability Awareness.

£175 + VAT plus travel cost to your venue. AoD also has a training room should you wish to hire this space for a fee for your session. 

We also offer Deaf Awareness and basic British Sign Language courses  for the same prices as above and they are available as Full day, half day and one hour sessions.

  • Medication Awareness Training – 29th August 2024 (in-person training, open now):

This course is designed to build confidence around medications and how to deal with those who regularly take medication.

  • First Aid Training – 11th September 2024 (in-person training, open now):

A 1-day course which identifies the role and responsibilities of first aiders, and details ways to minimise risk of injury.  It also includes how to deliver emergency first aid at work, allowing learners to practice putting people into the recovery position, CPR, and how to recognise and treat scalds, shock, and cuts.

This qualification will allow learners to assess a person’s level of consciousness and determine the status of their airway (whether it is blocked).  It is a valuable qualification to have to ensure staff members and clients are safe in the workplace.

  • Being an Independent Employer (online training, coming soon):

This session will introduce current IEs and people who are becoming an IE to Employment legislation, Recruitment, Inductions, Supervision, Boundaries, Disciplinary & Grievances, Health & Safety incl. risk assessments and the role of the Support Service.

  • Deaf Awareness Training (in-person training – open in Oct-Dec 2024):

This session will provide an understanding and introduction to deafness and the deaf community, language for deaf people and communication skills, best practise and raising awareness.

  • Dementia Awareness (in-person training, open in Oct-Dec 2024):

This course is designed to explain what dementia is and how to deal with dementia in people

  • Epilepsy Awareness (in-person training, open in Jan-Mar 2025)

This course is designed to explain epilepsy and how it can affect people

  • Handling Challenging Behaviour (in-person training, open in Oct-Dec 2024)

This course covers how to recognise and address challenging situations using strategies developed through psychological theories and relevant case studies. You’ll learn how to recognise the warning signs of conflict occurring or escalating and use strategies to deal with situations where aggression is escalating.

  • Mental Health Awareness (online training, coming soon)

This course explains the difference between mental health and mental illness. It covers the symptoms of a number of the most common mental illnesses

  • Learning Disability Awareness (online training, coming soon)

This course will start by giving you an overview of some of the common types and causes of learning disabilities and how they affect people.

  • Dignity and Privacy (online training, coming soon)

The course will start by defining dignity and privacy within the healthcare sector, and will explain how the two are quite often linked.
